Post Anselion, the Polaris State
Anselion, the Polaris State, member of the Obsidian Empire.
"One people, one state, one species."

Species: Canines, primarily 'wild' types. (Vulpine, lupine, ect.)

Main Language(s): Germanic, Anglic.
Secondary Language(s): Gaulic.

Tolerated Species: Hyenas, Raccoons, some Mustalids. Mostly judged on an individual basis, though non-canines were never able to overcome the glass ceiling and become Nobility.
Enemies: Felines are mortal enemies, along with most reptiles and hybrids.

Theology/Philosophy: Occult influenced Astrology, combined with a spiritual form of hero-worship.

Structure:
Formerly, conglomerate of city states under a military council, enforcing a loose caste system. Presently, a network of refugees residing in 'burgs' amid the Midcity and Undercity.

Agenda:
Formerly, a isolationist state with little interest in affairs that didn't effect other canine colonies, or their
cultural ideology.

Presently, nothing short of the survival of their species.

Size:
A small-to-medium sized Colony on the northern fringe of the continent, now a close-knit culture of ethnic survivors in Einheit seeking refuge from the outside world.

Background:
Residing in a region of mountain peaks high above the clouds riddled with anomalous geothermal activity and natural caverns, Anselion was founded on a mix of strong cultural identity and Militaristic outlook. Although the Colony bore a strong orderly bent, each member of Anselion's society was fiercely independent. Any force that sought to change or effect the nation from the outside would have to deal with the wrath of it's people in a united stand. Feuds weren't uncommon, but rarely lead to violence since speaking truthfully was encouraged, negative thoughts aren't given time to brew.

During the founding years, the people found their menace in the form of Shin-Saiue, the "Death's Dagger" legion of tribal cultists following a ritualistic creed of destruction against all canines. Over the years, Anselion drove the felines out of the mountains, eventually purging all presence of them for their holy ground. The feud lasted centuries, until Shin-Saiue's attack on the border city of Draesburg, resulting in the deaths of all civilians in the region. Enraged by the blatant act of destruction, Anselion massacred every feline they encountered, cutting a bloody swath through several colonies. During this time, Anselion became close allies of Yerushalem VI, becoming both part of their air-defense grid, and a dedicated member of the Obsidian Empire. However, this didn't save them in the end, and the great cities fell along with the rest of the Boreas victims, now silent as tombs. Those were dark times, but now, the ailing people struggle even harder to retain the last vestiges of their culture.

Theology and Philosophy:
The Polaris State followed a odd mix of astrology and Nationalist military tradition. They follow the path that the stars write, yet Anselionites realize that nothing is set in stone. The stars illuminate the path, but it is up to the individual to choose whether to take the path before them. The world is there for the Canine species, and the few who prove themselves, to take. Fate has seen to that. It is only a matter of time, and Anselionites are known for their patience and stubborn determination. Most civilians view this system as a cultural tradition rather then a religious belief, as most have purposely forgotten the old ways in the face of Ministry pressure.

Society was built top-down as such:

Obervolk (Nobles) - All families with lineage dating back to the Colonies' founding were considered Nobles. These families ran all the important affairs of the nation's few cities, keeping the wheels of industry and bureaucracy turning. Some Military officers could become Nobility if they served with distinction. Almost all Nobles were killed in the Species War or as a direct result of Operation Boreas.

Mittevolk (Middle-class) - The working class backbone of Anselion, purebred canines who complied with the Anselion code of living and social ideal were given this classification. Roughly a quarter of the Mittevolk's population survives as refugees in Einheit.

Untervolk (Lower-class) Hybrids, the politically despised and the other scraps of society that were considered too inept or impure to follow the Council's strict code of breeding and social laws. Many of these castaways joined Frey's expedition and became citizens of Einheit in it's early days.

Symbolism:
Anselion's flag bears it's most common symbol, a silver four-pointed star, surrounded by a black lozenge, imposed over a blue background. The second most common symbol is referred to as the "black sun" (or schwarze-sonne) due to it's shape, being the old superstitious symbol for the extinguished Sun and the coming of Fimbulvetr. It was commonly worn on the collar of jackets, caps, directly above the brim (usually accompanied by a star, set in the middle,) and as a tattoo under the right eye. In their culture, it is a symbol of the Military's dedication to upholding traditions of the past, though it's use is slowly fading over time. Thirdly, is the snowflake, given as a medal for civilians and soldiers alike as a reward for selfless or heroic action in the face of danger.

Military:
Strike like lightning, rain terror from all directions, and retreat before the enemy can even react to the power of the Blitz. That was the dominating doctrine of the Anselion's proud service, utilizing light special-forces groups, brutal armored unit rushes, and preceded by artillery fire and air strikes. Infantry were trained more like other colony's special forces then a standing army, the nation's small size limiting it's large-scare capability. However, their training and modus operandi made them one of the most mobile and feared groups in the Obsidian Empire.

A typical Anselionite soldier was a middle-class male, eldest son of his family, and rigorously trained in brutal stealth tactics and terror warfare. Most had a proud dedication to their Nationalistic beliefs, hence why the majority of the nation's military was either destroyed in futile 'last stands' or simply vanished into the Nightlands.

Aesthetically, the most common theme was steel grey, dark blue, and silver, usually patterned in a digitalized tiger-stripe like pattern over helmets, pants, and vehicles.

The two sub-branches of the army both bore their own unique garb as well. The Light Infantry, or Jaeger, wore a grey-blue jacket over the basic camouflage pattern, and sported a light grey cap. These units were often the first that new recruits were assigned to, and had basic field duties alongside other units, reflected in their lighter armor and weaponry.

The Armored Infantry Korps, or simply Panzer Infantrie, wore black jackets with silver collar tabs and piping on the shoulder boards, while black M43-styled field caps were standard issue alongside the bowl-like Panzergrenadier helmet. Footwear varied from knee-high marching boots equipped with small steel spikes for traction, doubling as marching hobnails, to simple ankle boots and leg-wrappings. The Panzer's combat duty was simple, constitute the front line of all Anselionite offensives, and hold the front while Jaeger units flanked enemy positions in guerrilla warfare tactics

The weaponry varied depending on unit function, from light armor-piercing carbines and sub-machine guns, to heavy bolt-action sniper rifles and rocket launchers designed to take out aerodynes and tanks.

The G51 was the most common weapon, a slightly outdated but reliable heavy rifle firing a 8x55mm slug at semi-automatic, effective against most medium armor at long range.

The MP33 SMG was well loved by it's wielders for it's reliable design, decent stopping power, and accuracy, firing a medium caliber pistol cartridge.

The Achilles heel, was their air forces. Anselion's high altitude and immense winds prevented development of a strong aerial corps, but also protected them from aerial assault. Mostly, however, they left air-superiority matches to their allied colonies.
