"Have you seen a little mouse-fox cross, about eight years old? I just want to know she's okay..."

Player: Foozzzball

Character Name:
Jonas Klennan

Age: 32

Sex: Male

Species: Mouse

Height/Weight: 4'8" / Very skinny

Social Status: Outer Class

Physical Description:
Short, fragile. Hurt. Jonas is short, even among mice. He's barely the size of a twelve year old, and so thin that you can make out the ripple of his ribs even through his fur. A dense, brown fur, slightly paler at his throat. A fur that hides scars imperfectly, for one can make out the uneven patches and places it grows badly.

His throat is worst, covered in criss-crossing tangles where his fur's direction of growth changes, where the slight pink of a scar occasionally bares itself. There are more on his face, most too subtle to see unless you look at him closely. The edges of his ears, pink and fleshy on the inside, have been gnawed at by frostbite. Worse still, the right ear was split, leaving a straight edged chunk torn into it a third of the way down.

He's missing teeth, pre-molars on the top right and bottom left. The end of his naked tail? Terribly scarred, the pink flesh almost looking as if the skin had been partly torn away.

And yet. He is gentle. So gentle, with a voice pure and sweet and slightly high pitched, that perhaps some would find it difficult to comprehend how such a quiet soul would come to bear such scars.

Background:
Born in the now vanished colony of Ur Q`Raam, a partly Arabi city with a lot of varying neo-mid-east influences, he and his family were marked for hardship almost as great as that experienced by hybrids from the start. Followers of the religion of the Martyr's Witnesses, members of the twelfth tribe who witnessed the Martyr, they were quiet and peaceful and spoke against tyranny. And so they were viewed as infidels by the colonial ruling class. Thus they were placed in the Guwwa'jidar, the walled ghetto of that city, to live amongst the oppressed.

It was no wonder that when Avram Frey had spoken so highly of freedom and tolerance, many Martyr's Witnesses sought to join him. Early on they fled, Jonas's father leading his family along with those of a few cousins. They settled in Einheit early, founded a tabernacle to worship in, and sent word to all they knew that here, finally, was a place of tolerance where they could be free to live their quiet lives hand in hand with others in peace.

Many fled the oppressive colonies, some even travelled from those very few places where the Martyr's Witnesses were allowed to worship freely, and they worked together for the greater good.

Young Jonas sought to help people, and so he studied as a doctor. Talented, bright, sympathetic, he was quick to pick up on many things. Even as the tolerance for the religious in Einheit began to wane after Frey's death, Jonas's talent was fed by the best education the city had to offer. He even studied in the Toride, before the bastions of learning there closed their doors to the Outer Class.

Those were dark times. In the days before religion became illegal in Einheit, there was no lack of hatred against it. He bore taunts, verbal abuse, a few physical assaults. And then, one day, their tabernacle was attacked by local people bearing firebombs. And so it burned to the ground, and Jonas lost his brother and father. He found himself thanking God that his mother had been spared the darkness of these days, for she had died peaceably years before.

It was as a student that he fell very much in love with Kassandra Davis, a fox, eventually proposing to her. As he completed his studies they conceived a child together. For an outer classer in those days, joining the Uniclass could mean having to abandon your people, your family.

But most of Jonas's immediate family was dead. His choice had been made for him. He would raise his child in the Toride, in safety. In peace. By that time marriage in a religious context was illegal, but he and Kassandra planned out their civil ceremony amongst the beautiful Toride gardens.

His life had been painful, but now it was perfect. It was going to be wonderful, happily ever after.

Except during the early interviews and evaluations, it was determined that he was a religious offender. And that was not acceptable.

He remained in a local prison long enough to be told that Kassandra had given birth to a beautiful baby girl, though she didn't visit. Didn't write. Simply abandoned him. Eventually, it seemed as though she must have even changed her name to leave him behind, as nothing more than a shameful step on the path to Unity.

Jonas was taken to the Gulags, far out in the dark and cold of the Nightlands. They tried to beat his religion from him, and desperately, Jonas tried to abandon it. He lied that he no longer believed in his old ways, pretended that he did not spend his last few thoughts before sleep in silent prayer that his daughter and ex-fiancé were alright, happy.

Six long years went by before he was released, having denounced his religion and suffered long. Six years in which he was one of the few lucky ones with a skill that gave him prison duties indoors more often than not, caring for the ill.

Now, years later he still cares for the ill. He doesn't charge for treatment, running a small clinic from his meager quarters in Baker Heights, a partly abandoned skyscraper. he is supported by kindness shown in return to his own. Sometimes he wanders the streets, begs hybrid passerby for news of a daughter he doesn't even know the name of.

He seeks to do good, be kind. He has done no harm to anyone. He keeps quiet, hides his faith. But how long can it last? Einheit is not a kind place.

Personality: Jonas is a victim, and he knows it. He should have crumbled under it all, but he holds his own deep secrets. Wisdoms from his religion, a desperate belief that even in suffering there is a diety out there who loves him, even if he can no longer hold to the rituals and customs of his religion.

But still. They help him carry on in the best traditions of martyrs, to suffer in silence and accept any burden, but to still carry onward as best he can. Even if he sometimes falters, he will carry on if only for the sakes of those who he heals.

Weapons/Equipment:
Medical equipment, which is more suitable for healing than for harming.

Misc: Jonas was an excellent student before being taken from his studies, and has continued to study as best he can.

While he cannot openly practice his religion or bear any icons of it, in private he does his best to uphold the tenets of his faith.
