Character Name: James T. Inoue
Age: 31
Sex: Man
Species: wolf
Height/Weight: 6'2", 210
Social Status: Outer Class
Physical Description: Though tall and broad-shouldered with a narrow waist, and although he appears a fairly fit figure when clothed, James isn't perhaps as muscular (or as lean) as one would think, owing this primarily to a lifestyle that involves long periods of sitting broken up by the occasional period of sleeping, binge-drinking, or not-so-nutritious meal. His shaggy fur is longer than most wolves' and dark, reddish brown, darkening to nearly black around his eyes, muzzle, and in a large, roughly triangular patch across his shoulderblades and upper back. His tail has a black tip. His eyes are deep-set and blue-grey. His hair (headfur?) is very dark brown (almost black), longish in the front and hanging down into his eyes, and cut short in the back where it disappears into the shaggy ruff of fur at the back of his neck.
He can usually be found wearing button up dress shirts with slacks and suspenders, sweaters and jeans, and, on occasions where he has to look nice, a slightly threadbare navy blue suit. And sneakers. He also wears glasses (they make him look studious and distinguished, but he also needs them to not run into people, tractors, walls, and various other solid objects) and a very old watch that was given to him by his father. The watch is analog and not particularly valuable in any way but sentimentally. It's a nice conversation piece if nothing else. And it still keeps good time! Which is what you like to have in a watch.
Background: James is an aspiring novelist, specializing in romantic fantasy. Because censorship makes the publishing industry nearly impossible to break into (especially in any kind of a lucrative fashion) for the outerclass, he makes money by freelance technical writing for various companies. Instruction manuals, safety pamphlets, textbooks, and medical writing are all things he does. Between this and working on his novel in the hopes it will be good enough (and unobjectionable enough) to be published someday, he keeps a pretty busy schedule. He just barely makes enough to get by without having to take on a roommate to share rent.
He is married (to another wolf) but he and his wife are separated and for all purposes no longer together. Her complaint was that he never gave her enough attention; a valid complaint! She has custody of their two children; he has no idea where she is living and hasn't seen any of them in a couple of years. She could even be with somebody else by now, or have gotten herself tigered up or something and been living in the Toride for all he knows. It's something that bothers him a little, but it can't be helped.
James has considered joining the Uniclass, where he might have more freedom as a writer and better chances of being published, and he has applied for genetic reassignment. However, he was rejected at the time for being in poor physical shape with far too common DNA (wolves are a dime a dozen in Einheit, so scientists can afford to be picky). He was told that if his physical condition improves, he will have a better chance at being accepted into the program; with his lifestyle and work habits, however, this is likely to never happen.
Personality: James is a pleasant enough guy, even charming. Generally fairly sharp (he is well educated by outer class standards and generally comes across as such), he is occasionally a bit absent in that sort of way that intellectuals can sometimes be, presumably lost in thought. He drinks a lot and is possibly an alcoholic, though that's just part of the romance of writing, isn't it? A smoker, he is also horribly and utterly addicted to coffee and probably drinks at least ten cups a day on average. Black. No sugar. He often stays up all night working at his desk and sometimes has trouble sleeping, feeling compelled to be doing something instead of being idle. Often he will go out to clubs, bars, coffeehouses, and other public places to socialize and take a break from his work.
He is a sucker for pretty women, and though he's probably not the hottest or buffest guy around, he is pretty adept at using his skill with words to charm them. The fact that he's witty doesn't hurt, either.
He is a rather decent cook but rarely has the time for that kind of thing, so he eats out a lot. Noodles, mostly. He can't afford all that expensive manta crap (especially nowadays) and is dubious of any place that sells meat dishes at prices he can afford.
Weapons/Equipment: Pepperspray (just in case!!!), a notepad and pen for writing down notable things to be used later in writing applications, and a messenger style bag for carrying things such as his notepad, cigarettes, and cough drops. Not tampons, though, for dudes do not use those.
